Dasha (Mahadasha)
The chapters of your life. Each is ruled by one planet and lasts 6 to 20 years.
The Vimshottari dasha system divides a 120-year life into nine chapters, one per planet. Which one you start with depends on your birth nakshatra.
During a planet's mahadasha, the things that planet stands for (and the houses it rules in your chart) come to the front. This is the main tool astrologers use to say when something is likely to happen.

In a Venus mahadasha, relationships, comfort and money tend to be the big themes of those 20 years.

जीवन के अध्याय। हर अध्याय का स्वामी एक ग्रह होता है और यह 6 से 20 साल तक चलता है।
विंशोत्तरी दशा 120 साल के जीवन को नौ अध्यायों में बाँटती है, हर ग्रह का एक। आप किस दशा से शुरू करेंगे, यह जन्म नक्षत्र से तय होता है।
किसी ग्रह की महादशा में उस ग्रह से जुड़ी बातें (और कुंडली में उसके भाव) सामने आती हैं। ज्योतिषी इसी से बताते हैं कि कोई घटना कब होने की संभावना है।
उदाहरण: शुक्र की महादशा में उन 20 सालों के बड़े विषय अक्सर रिश्ते, सुख-सुविधा और धन होते हैं।
