Diwali 2026 in every city, India and Canada
Each city's date and Lakshmi Puja muhurat on its own local clock, from its own sunrise and sunset.
How the date is worked out
Diwali falls on the day its tithi is running in Pradosh Kaal, the evening window after sunset (a fifth of the night) at your location. The puja muhurat is the part of Pradosh Kaal when the fixed sign Vrishabha (Taurus) is rising, while the tithi lasts. Dates follow these traditional rules and each city's sunrise, so they can differ between cities, and sometimes from a printed calendar made for another place.
Plan the rest of your day
Rahu Kaal, Choghadiya and Abhijit Muhurta for the day are in your city's Panchang. For questions about your own chart and timing, talk to one of our expert astrologers.

Diwali: questions, answered
Diwali 2026 is on Sunday, 8 November in Delhi and most of India. The Lakshmi Puja muhurat in Delhi is 5:54 pm to 7:50 pm. The table on this page gives the date and time for each city in India and Canada.
The best time is Pradosh Kaal, the evening window after sunset, while the fixed sign Vrishabha (Taurus) is rising and Amavasya is running. In Delhi that is 5:54 pm to 7:50 pm. Times change with your city's sunset, so check your city in the table.
Diwali is kept on the evening Amavasya is running after local sunset. Canada is 8.5 to 13.5 hours behind India, so the date can differ in some years. This page works it out for Toronto, Brampton, Surrey, Vancouver and other Canadian cities on their own clocks.
Vrishabha (Taurus) is a fixed (sthir) sign. Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi while a fixed sign rises is believed to make her stay in the home, which is why the Lakshmi Puja muhurat is Pradosh Kaal overlapping the Vrishabha lagna.
Diwali is observed on the day its tithi is running in Pradosh Kaal, the evening window after sunset (a fifth of the night) at your location. Because sunrise and sunset differ from place to place, the date and time can differ between cities, and sometimes from a printed calendar made for another city.
Every muhurat is counted from your own city's sunrise and sunset, and the tithi changes at the same instant everywhere but at a different clock time in each time zone. That is why each city in India and Canada has its own date and time.
